DIY Tension Rod Shade
Here is a quick “how to” on creating a shade from the dining room I shared with you in yesterday’s post.
It’s pretty darn easy. I did not actually construct this one..it was all my client…told you she is savvy!
Here are the steps..
1. Decide how long you want your shade to be. Keep in mind it will be stationary.
2. Create a rectangle shape with the dimensions you came up with. You can sew the edges, use the stitch witchery stuff, or hot glue (like I would). My client sewed hers. Snaps!
3. Lastly, you will need to create a pocket on the top as the first tension rod will need to be hidden.
Then get three tension rods from the dollar store or Walmart..set them in the inside of the windows at your desired height. Then you will simply lay your fabric over the tension rods to create the roman shade look. See, how easy is that??
From the side it will look like this..So while it is mostly stationary, if you occasionally want to pull it all the way to cover the whole window you certainly can.
And one last whole room shot
How easy and awesome is that? The thing we splurged on here was the fabric..we fell in love with it. But with something this central to the room it was well worth the investment for large statement it makes. And had we hired someone “real deal” to make a roman shade..we would have paid hundreds.
Cheers!
