Coloring the front Door

How do you feel about your front door? Do you love the color? Each time you pull up to your house, do you glance at it and think…”I made the right choice on that color.” Or do you ignore it? Perhaps right now you are thinking…what color is my front door? Or…do you dislike it? You think its pretty darn ugly, but think you are “stuck” with it. If you are in latter of the two categories.I am here to free you from your front door apathy/disdain..PAINT IT, YO! Thats all, that is the magic trick. We have lived in three homes in the past 6 years and each has had a diffent door color…The first was wood and I painted it olive green! How cute does this look?

The house was a sweet blue/grey and the door was, in my opinion a little whimsical and fun.

The next house was a little more of an eye sore when we purchased it. We knew it wasn’t going to be our dream house, but, made the most out of what we could. We removed the nasty red shutters, added black shutters and this time a black front door. It really transformed the look. Here she is.

So, when we purchased this house we knew it was missing some color. The endless amount of white (very white) siding and the brick, weren’t bad, but needed more.

So, again, we added black shutters, and thought it was much improved.

But I got to thinking…what color is this front door meant to be???  After a  few coats of a “Mess up” paint (see my rantings about mess up paint by clicking here).

Its destiny has been determined…Doesn’t that make a fun difference? Don’t be afraid to choose a color that is not an “ordinary” door color. Don’t get me wrong, I love a red front door, but who decided red is one of the only colors a front door can be? Changing the exterior of our current home from pretty (but boring) to pretty cool (ha) basically cost $80 in shutters and a little bit of labor. Be empowered! Color that door!
