Pallet Shelving
Nic (my husband) works for an amazing church, (Brentwood Church, check them out here if you are in the Lynchburg area). Well this week they received a shipment of new sound equipment, and I received a discarded pallet from the deal. It is just the right amount of beat up/ perfect that I love in my home. We hung it and VOILA! A free version of floating shelves (sorta).
I know lots of stores have these lying around and I have seen them as headboards in a child’s room, in a kitchen to hold dishes and out in the garden lined with pots of plants. What a fun and free item!!!

This is brilliant! I would love to do something like this in my master bedroom (which has pretty empty walls at the moment). Do you mind me asking, what did you use to secure it to the wall? It must be pretty heavy….
Can you tell me how you hung it up? What type of brackets, if any, did you use?
I just picked up a pallet and I think I am going to do this. How did you hang it?
We just used wall anchors and screws..drilling through the pallet with the screws into the anchors. Hope that helps!

[...] This particular shelving system is probably the easiest one to make. You don’t need to know anything about the process because there really isn’t anything to know. Awesome. Thanks for the post and information. I always see pallets stacked outside behind stores where I live and always wanted to do something amazing with them. Nina Holst turns them into a neat sofa: http://blog.stylizimo.com/2011/05/diy-pallet-sofa….

[...] From marketing coordinator Megan Lindsey: “”I always see these wooden pallets lying around. They usually get thrown out or put away because they’ve been used to either move or ship something. This is a beautiful and innovative way to use them! The possibilities are endless…they can be used as a headboard, coffee table, or a floating shelf, like you see here. Cool idea! I love this!! Can't wait to take down an ugly picture in my living room and replace it with this awesome idea!

Wow… who knew? Rustic looking and functional! Love it! And to think my main use of them is as a ladder!!!! (not a safe one; do not try at home… but if you need to climb over a wall in a pinch, this is a GREAT tool!)
