Stencil envy

stencil

I’m saving up my pennies untill I can order the stencil that created this awesome wall. You can glance at it here on etsy. I have just the right empty wall in my basement..Background color Tan-ish/creme, stencil pattern in white. Subtle, but fun and a great alternative to the all popular (once again) wallpaper. While this will take some time and patience, it will be a fraction of the cost as well. We’ll see how it goes!

Slowing down

IMG_4868

I adore how the snow slows life down a touch. Here are a few things we have been up to… Last year Lou Lou hated the snow..this year she is loving it! The twins. smile. Our snowman..Nic faced him towards the house, so the girls could look out the storm door and see him. So cute. Clara by the tree staying warm. This was my hat as a baby.  And yet another dictionary wreath. I just love making these and am changing up the embellishments. This time..a collection of vintage buttons. And, I wanted to point out that while I have made three wreaths…I am (as you can read in the picture below) only the the “D” section of the dictionary. Um…I sorta want to challenge myself to make enough wreaths to get through the whole dictionary. As a side

“Pottery Barn” Christmas card holder

IMG_4816

Remember how I told you I made this to display some babygirl products at a show? And then I ended up not using it? You can read about it here. And then I tried to use it in my house..but didn’t love how unfinished it seemed….too “dorm room”. Then my smart friend mentioned using it as a Christmas card holder. And I loved the idea. Here she is as  Christmas card holder. Hung by a simple ribbon..this is a great temporary piece. The only problem is…I need some more Christmas cards. Do you see this and feel sorry for me? Yesterday I was tempted to hang a card I received from my insurance company wishing me Merry Christmas..I am not that desperate…yet. If after seeing this you want to send my family a card, contact me and I can email

Christmas Tablescape

IMG_4736

We had a Christmas gathering at our home last night and my table was looking quite plain.  I wanted to snazz it up, so I used items from around the house (since I was on “lock down” during nap time.) Here is what I used.. Pine cones form under the neighbors trees Fabric I had bought to make headbands (remnant fabric, under $1) Silver and brass items from around the house (no mathcy-matchy needed) Some miscellaneous branches, greenery and berries from my Christmas decor stash. Oh and a few old books, always old books, always. And my result… I wanted you to see that I didn’t bother to try to hide the exposed edges..I think it has a very rugged feel (justify away, Amanda) And here she is covered with dessert options. Perfect. I am linking up with The Holiday

Wreath inside?

IMG_4691

Well, I told you how I made my dictionary wreath here. And while I loved how it turned out, I never really got to see it much, so I moved her inside. I usually have a large framed picture here, but not this holiday season. You can see she got a small dose of Christmas cheer in the form of a few babygirl rosettes sewn by my mom. Now..I am enjoying her all day long.

Almost like it?

IMG_4504

So, I needed an inexpensive side table (and quick) so I  ran into Ross and saw this one. While I liked the shape, I hated the finish. Here is a shot of how it looked before… I decided to spray paint it a high gloss white in an attempt to get a more modern look. I typically don’t spray paint brand new items..but since this was only $14, I made an exception. Here is how it turned out. It’s fun that it just took a small tweak in order to make it work for the space. The total cost on this was $16 with the spray paint and it only took about 10 minutes to transform it.

Mantel Linky

IMG_4545

Layla at the Lettered Cottage is doing a mantel link up party. So, here is my Christmas mantel. I made some felt garland, used ribbon, round Chritmas lights and, last but not least, my broken mirror turned chalkboard. Love how the scripture sets the tone. Do you like my hodge podge of stockings? Center two, Target $2 and outer two, I have no idea. One day I am going to grow up and get some pretty ones. One day. Hop on over to her site to get inspiration for your mantel! (there are only about 350 to look at )

More Pink Updated

IMG_4489

Remember how I said we are making new pink things around here daily?…Well, I had some fabric left over and whipped up some flowers and added them to a pillow that sits in Maclayrn’s room. Just wanted to show you I was serious about that. The fun thing about this fabric is the variety makes for a really fun flower..different patterns and colors all throughout. Boring pink pillow..to a little sassier version of itself. Free and quick! Did I mention I glued it? =)
