Confession

photo-25

Most days I sorta (totally ) love having my glue gun plugged in all day long. Wasteful? Maybe..but at any second an idea might hit me and I need access the the power and amazing capability of my glue gun. Here she is right now. ( I left the counters messy for youall) I saw the flower/wreath maker lady at Micheals keep her glue gun in a vase and it’s brilliant, really. Mine is an old pickle jar. classy. That’s all. Just needed to put that out there. Amanda

Open Shelving, Sorta.

IMG_6169

I am self-aware enough to know I could not do open cabinets in my kitchen. When I see photos of open kitchens..I usually drool over the open, airy, fresh feeling of open faced cabinets…Where all the pieces are placed just perfectly. Do people really live like that? I know I need space for the 10 Dora plates and the random sippy cup lids. This is the privacy my cabinet doors bless me with. I know I am not strong enough for exposure…I am weak. Organizationally wimpy for sure. I do, however, have built in shelving in my den, about 8 feet away from my kitchen sink. I got to thinking..the gorgeous white China, every day dishes and even my rarely used cookware (don’t judge) could be stored there and “shown off” while not in use.  (All the while leaving me

$1,000 chair?

dav

***UPDATE..the wonderful Amanda Farrel (check out here work here) purchased this chair to use in her photo sessions. Love it! Just wanted to mention how easy it would be to take this $40 chair currently sitting at the DAV in Lynchburg… And turn it into something like this. (This is is currently for sale at Ballard Designs for  $700-$1,000 (depending on your fabric) Even taking the DAV chair to an upholstery shop would probably run $100-$150. Still giving you..like um…$700 savings. The shape is adorable and the legs are charming.  Wish I “needed” this chair. Maybe you are..think outside the “buy it brand new” box Re-work something,  SAVE TONS OF MONEY..and get something totally ORIGINAL.

Den then and now. (and tobacco basket)

IMG_6056

Den before.  Just waiting on someone to give it a chance. And now… (Kept the toy box open for you all…life is charming, isn’t it? And then… And now… And then (again) And one more now.. (please notice that my kitchen is a wreck. ) And under the peek through to the kitchen is a “bar” that can open up- in case you are wondering. So, there she is..the den we knew was there. We chose love. And one more shot of the tabbaco basket. SO cute, huh? Do you love the old yellow paint as much as I do? Know what I hate?…the random wall pate (from old baseboard heating we removed) Hope these pics leave you feeling like most anything is possible. :) All these changes were made with a teeny-tiny budget. I will try to list out

Pallet Shelving

IMG_6129

Nic (my husband) works for an amazing church, (Brentwood Church, check them out here if you are in the Lynchburg area). Well this week they received a shipment of new sound equipment, and I received a discarded pallet from the deal. It is just the right amount of beat up/ perfect that I love in my home. We hung it and VOILA! A free version of floating shelves (sorta). I know lots of stores have these lying around and I have seen them as headboards in a child’s room, in a kitchen to hold dishes and out in the garden lined with pots of plants. What a fun and free item!!!

Fancy Framed Corkboards

IMG_6026

Ballard designs sells this set of three corkbaords for $269. Which is silly. I wanted a few corkboards in my daughters room, so I went to work… Started with a pair of these beauties..$5 a piece from a local thrift store…the key is a chunky frame. Removed the back off the frame, then sprayed them with three coats of high gloss white spray paint (Valspar) And had this… Then I used this cork shelf liner I found at Big Lots, (happens to be Martha Stewart) I didn’t do much cork research, so there might be better options, but this is what I used, and it worked! I cut it to fit the inside of the frame and hot glued it in place! Here they are hung in my daughter’s room. Then the fun part..accessorizing. Valentines, fun pictures and any other

Before and After (Client bathroom remodel)

IMG_5955

I have been working with a client on several projects around her home and wanted to show you a few results of her bathroom thus far. Here is the before shot of her vanity and flooring (which had the same salmon tones) We went through a million options.. 1. Remove the whole thing 2. Replace the counter and use the base. 3. Remove and switch to a single bowl sink. 4. Paint/refinish the counter surface and stain the base. In the end we decided to replace the marble surface with a more streamlined white double sink and to stain the bottom cabinet. (Since she really wanted to keep the double sink feature and also the cabinet for storage) Here is the counter and the faucets (Also notice the beautiful tile we scored on major discount that my client’s husband installed)

Tobacco Basket

antiquebasket

Scored this tobacco basket at an antique store today. You know when something at a store sort of haunts you. You walk by, admire it, then you can’t get it out of your mind the entire time you are in the store. You even walk past it (again) like you don’t care…like it doesn’t have any power over you, but then you glance at it and it’s over.  (Not helping today was the fact that the awesome birthday money I opened early from my parents was burning a major hole in my really cute J Crew skirt (Clearance store) pocket.) Anyways, I’ve never seen one of these before. But love the size (huge), texture (rough) and color (worn). Came home and did a few quick searches and apparently these are not uncommon to the decorating world. I love this shot
